Police in northern Greece seized dozens of bags of cocaine hidden in containers of bananas that were delivered from Latin America, News.ro reported with reference to Reuters.
The police discovered two suspicious containers in the port of Piraeus and, after delivering them to the port of Thessaloniki, discovered 100 “bricks” of cocaine, with a total weight of 161 kilograms.
According to the police, the drugs, which should have reached the entire territory of Greece and other European countries, are worth approximately 3.2 million euros.
The batch was found as part of an investigation launched by Greece last month with North Macedonian authorities and the US Drug Enforcement Agency, following the seizure of around 100 kilograms of cocaine, also hidden in banana containers at a warehouse in Thessaloniki. About 14 people were detained in this case.
