The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova has been extended for 60 days, starting from June 4. Prime Minister Dorin Rechan recently noted at the plenary session of the legislative body that the need to continue the state of emergency is due to the unpredictable development of the war started by Russia against Ukraine: the launched counteroffensive, as well as the expansion of instability, including on the territory of the Russian Federation.
“Aggression on our border. Next to us, in the Europe of the 21st century, civil infrastructure is being bombed, the aqueduct and sewage network are being destroyed, the infrastructure needed to provide medicine, food and other necessary things.
Power grids were also affected, which directly affects the Republic of Moldova. In addition, when Ukrainian citizens have nothing to eat, sit in the dark and have no water, there is a risk of increasing the migration flow,” said Prime Minister Dorin Rechan, quoted in the press release of the Chisinau government.
According to the head of the executive power, in these conditions, the government’s ability to make immediate decisions to manage emergency situations is important.
At the same time, Prime Minister Dorin Recan said that in June the government will complete an initiative to change the legislative framework to propose the introduction of an emergency decree on the Romanian model.
The emergency resolution will significantly increase the effectiveness of parliamentary control over the Government’s decisions and make every decision made in a crisis situation subject to discussion or even cancellation in the parliament.
“The adoption of these changes to the legislative framework will allow us to get out of the state of emergency, but remain ready for any unforeseen situation that requires the immediate intervention of the Government to protect people,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
