Karolina Muhova won her first victory against Iryna Begu, and Romania was left without athletes in the main draw of the Roland Garros women’s singles. At the end of the match at the Suzanne Mathieu arena (6-3, 6-2 for the Czech Republic), Iryna explained thematically and in a sermon why she left the Paris Grand Slam in the third round.

Iryna Begu says that the serve did not go well at all, and her rival Karolina Mukhova played better

Visibly shocked by the defeat, Iryna came to the conference with clear explanations about the defeat on Thursday evening.

Our athlete (27th favorite in Paris) said that the main weapon that did not work for her was the serve, hence the whole tactical score suffered.

Iryna recognized fair play as an advantage of her opponent and bluntly said that when you play at the Grand Slam at this level, you don’t win.

“She played very well (without Karolina Mukhova), she played much better tennis than in the previous match. I think I let it go a lot, I didn’t push it. I served… I have no words to describe how I served. At this level you can’t afford to play that badly, I’m trying to move on.

In the evening, the ball does not bounce, it is cold, the field is much softer, at least this year the fields are completely different than in previous years. Automatically, the game is much more difficult, there is a lot of slush on the court. A normal day where more balls are lifted has a different effect and is harder to play. But no, the conditions were the same for both. It would be really beneficial for me to play during the day.

When you serve weak, she obviously has more chances to attack, and I didn’t have that opportunity because she was serving very well and building her game very well. Serving together and very slowly, I had no opportunity to dictate the pace myself. So obviously her chances of making a good comeback were better than mine.

I didn’t have the best day, that’s for sure. I was very passive in the first set. In the second set I tried to stay as close to the line as possible, but at the same time you need to vary very well” – Iryna Begu.

Iryna Begu will no longer play in tournaments until Wimbledon

Irina, who was eliminated from Roland Garros, said she would take a few days off and then resume training. He will train hard, and the next tournament he will play will be directly Wimbledon (the third Grand Slam of the year will be held July 3-16 at the All England Club).

“I think it’s the third or fourth year (not when he won’t be playing in any tournaments until Wimbledon). This is a decision I have made for some time, I am very calm and accepting of this decision.

I love playing on grass at Wimbledon (not just Wimbledon), I go the week before, I train there, I’ve been doing it for a few years and I feel really good. Wimbledon has better grass than other preparatory tournaments.

I will probably train hard, but for now I will take a few days off. I always play on clay immediately after Wimbledon, there are two tournaments, so now I want to take a break.

I think I’ve been coming since 2006, from the juniors (not at Roland Garros) and the surface and consistency of the court has never changed. I was surprised from that point of view, but I tried to stay physically as good as possible,” she concluded Iryna Begu.
