Today’s decision of the Plenary meeting is a joyful event European Parliament regarding the removal of immunity from the member of the European Parliament Alexis Georgoulis and his lawyer Matina Malla.

At the same time, she expressed the hope that her client would soon receive a call from the competent authorities so that he could familiarize himself with all the material in the case and give explanations.

After all, he recalls that until today, Mr. Georgoulis “is in the dark about its content” and knows “only about the existence of a complaint, without being officially notified by the authorities.”

“The process of lifting the immunity from Mr. Georgoulis was completed today after the ratification of the decision of the Legal Committee of the European Parliament at the plenary session. This development of events gives us particular satisfaction, since the actions taken on our part to speed up the process were effective, and therefore we can hope that Mr. Georgoulis will be briefly summoned by the competent authorities to familiarize himself with the entire material of the case. and give an explanation. I remind you that until today he is completely unaware of the contents of the case file and only knows about the existence of a complaint, never having been officially notified by the authorities. It should be noted that with the consent of Mr. Georgoulis himself, who expressed a desire to remove immunity from him as soon as possible, such a normally laborious process as lifting immunity has been significantly reduced, which is a happy development.”
