
The pair of Gabriela Ruse and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk qualified for the second round of the Roland Garros doubles tournament on Thursday.
No. 13 favorites Gabi and Marta defeated Russians Anna Blinkova and Varvara Grachova in the first round with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. The match lasted one hour and 57 minutes.
In the next round, Ruse and Kostyuk will meet the pair of Kirsten Flipkens/Shelby Rogers (Belgium/USA).
Also on Thursday, Iryna Begu and Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina lost in the first round to the team of Ingrid Martins/Iryna Shymanovych (Brazil/Belarus) with a score of 2-6, 4-6 in one hour and 22 minutes.
The prize for reaching the second round is €27,000, while the couples eliminated in the first round will receive €17,000.
