Madison Keys, 74 unforced errors in her match against Kayla Day at Roland Garros
2017 Wimbledon finalist Keys bowed out after nearly two and a half hours of play, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Most of the points were decided by Madison’s good shots: 40 winners and 74(!) unforced errors.
Know:
- Day (138th in the world) will play Anna Karolina Schmidlova (100 WTA) in the next round after the Slovakian edged past Iberian Alona Bolsova Zadoinov (131 WTA) 6-3, 6-4.
- Madison Keys’ best performance at Roland Garros remains in the semifinals of the 2018 season (she lost to Sloane Stephens, who then lost to Simona Halep in the final).
The Roland Garros tournament takes place from May 28 to June 11, has a total prize pool of 49.6 million euros, and is the 127th tournament. Iga Sviatek and Rafael Nadal (14-time winner in Paris) became the champions of the title.
Another upset in the women’s draw: Kayla Day defeats former semifinalist and No. 20 Madison Keys 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
She will perform Shmidlova in R3.
