Thessaloniki: priest acquitted for violating coronavirus measures

The priest, who was prosecuted for violating anti-coronavirus measures and calling for disobedience during the first “quarantine” in April 2020, was found not guilty.

We are talking about a priest working in the church of the Royal Church of Thessaloniki, who, after a preliminary investigation appointed by the prosecutor’s office, was charged.

The interference was caused by a publication on a local website, according to which the priest violated the measures against M. Paraskevi by opening the temple and allowing the faithful to bow to the Epitaph. According to the publication (which was accepted into the case file), he himself allegedly was against the measures and vaccinations, “dividing” the believers with his own words.

“We have made great efforts inside the temple to maintain calm and peace among the faithful and protect their health,” the priest said in his apology, stressing that the issue of vaccines is a medical issue, not a spiritual one. He apologized for admitting the faithful to worship because he followed the relevant circular of the diocese to which he belongs, and the pilgrimage lasted only one hour.
