The Ukrainian military said on Wednesday that it will soon receive CV90 armored infantry fighting vehicles, which it says are among the most advanced in the world.
“Ukraine will be protected by some of the most modern infantry fighting vehicles. The Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive CV-19 armored vehicles. This will be another powerful help from Swedish partners,” the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said in a message on the Telegram channel on Wednesday.
He reminded that CV90 infantry fighting vehicles are in service with several NATO member countries, and also informed that “Ukrainian crews are already completing their training.”
“Together we are approaching victory!” he concluded to the satisfaction of the Swedish side.
The Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) is actually a family of Swedish tracked combat vehicles developed by the Swedish Logistics Agency, Hägglunds and Bofors from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, which entered service with the Swedish Armed Forces in the mid-1990s years
Sweden announced in January that it would send about 50 CV90 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, according to statements made at a press conference by Deputy Prime Minister Abba Bush at the time.
The Nordic countries are preparing new military aid to Ukraine
The tanks were included in a military aid package prepared by the Stockholm government for Kyiv earlier this year, worth 4.3 billion Swedish crowns ($419 million).
It included NLAW anti-tank weapons and Archer artillery systems, a 152 mm self-propelled gun model developed by the Swedish arms industry. The Swedish government did not say how many Archer systems it plans to send to Ukraine, because the Scandinavian country’s armed forces only have 48 of them.
Neighboring Denmark also announced this week that it has lined up a new military aid package for Ukraine’s military that is set to reach 17.9 billion Danish kroner ($2.59 billion), a record for approved aid for the government in Copenhagen.
Finland also sent Leopard tanks and other equipment to Ukraine. Finland decided to send weapons to Ukraine on February 28 last year, which was a historic decision for the country that has a huge land border with Russia.
Together with their neighbors in the Baltic region, the countries of Northern Europe approved military aid to Ukraine, which few analysts would have expected before the start of the Russian invasion last year.
