On Wednesday, the Kremlin said that without Russia there can be no full-fledged dialogue on political processes in Europe, such as the one intended to be facilitated by the European Political Community (EPC), which is organizing a summit with the participation of almost 50 European leaders, EFE and Agerpres report.
“We will certainly monitor the news that comes from Chisinau, we will monitor the rhetoric that will dominate there,” Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov said during the daily press briefing.
According to Russia, “of course, we can talk about some European processes in a divided Europe, when there is no dialogue between many countries and Russia, but this is a minor political process in Europe and cannot be complete,” he added.
The leaders of the European Union will meet on Thursday in the Republic of Moldova with their counterparts from about 20 other countries of the European continent as part of the second summit of the European Political Community, including the leaders of some countries that Russia considers close partners, such as Serbia, Hungary, Armenia, Azerbaijan.
It is an informal format developed by French President Emmanuel Macron to allow EU candidate states and the rest of the continent, with the exception of Russia and Belarus, to discuss a range of issues from security to energy ties.
European discussions at a high level in the Republic of Moldova
The message European leaders will send to the world on Thursday is one of full support for the Republic of Moldova, a former Soviet republic that has in recent years adopted a decidedly pro-European policy, in contrast to the pro-Russian policies of the previous government, and which is suffering directly from the effects of the war launched by Russia in neighboring Ukraine. , notes EFE.
The meeting is also expected to mark a new attempt to mediate the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, after previous attempts failed. But this new round of talks comes after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said last week that his country is ready to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave as part of Azerbaijan if Baku guarantees the safety of the predominantly Armenian population there.
The physical presence or participation in the video conference mode of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, around whom many participating countries of the summit have created a common front against the President of Russia Volodymyr Putin, is also not excluded, reports the quoted press agency.
Russia’s temporary permanent representative to the EU, Kirill Longvinov, told the official Russian news agency TASS on Wednesday that the summit would be “another attempt by Brussels to create an anti-Russian coalition, to impose its vision of the world on third countries and to convince them to join the ‘illegitimate sanctions’ against Russia.”
This will be the second CPE summit, the holding of which in Chisinau is considered a blow to the image of the pro-Western government of President Maia Sandu.
