
The Greek police have planned to take increased traffic safety measures in connection with the three days of the Holy Spirit from June 2 to 6 in order to ensure the safe movement of citizens and the prevention of traffic accidents.
Event design includes:
– Strengthening traffic rules at the entrances and exits of large urban centers, where there is a large flow of vehicles.
– Control of the road network by sector, based on the specific traffic conditions in each region.
– Increased police presence and targeted protection at points on the road network where traffic accidents often occur.
– Traffic management with pedestrian traffic officers at key intersections to avoid congestion.
– Formation of general and special traffic controllers with a focus on checking dangerous violations (speeding, drunk driving, illegal overtaking, etc.), as well as violations for which, according to statistical data, they are responsible for the cause of serious traffic accidents (use mobile phones while driving).
– Strengthening transport measures in places of mass congestion of passengers (airports, ports, stations, etc.)
– Local traffic rules in which the festive events will take place.
– Presence of traffic inspectors at toll booths in the country to facilitate traffic, inform and advise drivers and passengers.
– Informing citizens through the Communication Services in all cases when there is a need to widely inform the population about the presence of traffic jams and other problems.
It is noted that throughout the implementation of the measures, both the personnel and the means of the Greek police, mainly the traffic police, will be on high operational readiness. In particular, patrol cars, motorcycles and ordinary vehicles with appropriate personnel and equipment will be provided to effectively guard the country’s road network.
Ban on the movement of trucks over 3.5 tons
In addition to the above measures, and for the safer movement of vehicles and improved traffic during the three days of the Holy Spirit, in addition to the traffic relief measures to be taken locally, a ban on the movement of trucks with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons .
In particular, for outbound traffic, the traffic ban for trucks will be in effect on Friday (2/6) from 16:00 to 22:00 and on Saturday (3/6) from 8:00 to 13:00.
For input current, the ban will be in effect from Monday (5/6) from 16:00 to 23:00.
