​Two Italian secret service agents and an Israeli Mossad agent were among four people who died in Italy on Sunday when their boat capsized on Lake Maggiore, Italian authorities said on Tuesday, EFE news agency reported.

Four people have died after a tourist boat carrying 24 people (22 passengers and two crew) capsized on Lake Maggiore in the Lombardy region of northern Italy in a severe storm that “came out of nowhere” at around 7.30pm on Sunday night. , as reported by the fire service and the press.

It was reported over the weekend that people were celebrating a birthday on a 16-metre boat when it capsized and sank due to a strong storm. Firefighters said on Twitter that 19 survivors swam to shore and the wreckage was found by divers at a depth of 16 meters.

Italian intelligence officials later announced that Italian agents Claudio Alonzi, 62, and Tiziana Barnobi, 53, were among the victims, saying they were on the cruise ship to celebrate someone’s birthday in the group.

The retired agent of the Israeli Mossad was identified as Shimoni Erez (50 years old), the information is confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel. According to Italian media, the Israeli consulate in Rome initiated steps to repatriate his body to Israel.

The fourth victim was Anya Bozhkova, a Russian woman and the wife of the owner of the boat, who rented it out to tourists.

All the other passengers on board the ship were also Italians and Israelis, according to local media, some of whom were members of the intelligence services.
