Rowing is steadily gaining momentum

Greek rowers became “collectors” of medals of the next European Championship. At the event held in Bled, Slovenia, our champions won three silvers and one bronze and showed that they are in great shape, so from September they will start … qualifying for the Olympic Games.

Stefanos Douskos in skiff, Evangelia Anastasiadou in light skiff, Zoi Fitsiu and Milena Kontou in light double skiff won silver medals, and Petros Gaidatsis and Antonis Papakonstantinou won bronze in light double skiff. At the European Championships in Slovenia, the competition was strong and most of the rowers, as our champions told us, are in excellent racing shape.

“It was a competitive and enjoyable event. It took place in an idyllic landscape. I’m happy with my performance as I’ve had some injury problems lately. The favorite was the world champion from Germany, Oliver Ziedler, whom I followed and eventually finished one place ahead of him. We are building a little and moving forward to the next competition, ”Golden Olympic champion Stefanos Dushkos told K.

Three silver medals and one bronze at the European Championships in Slovenia.

The next race for the 26-year-old champion, as well as for our other rowers, will be the World Cup in Lucerne. In September, Belgrade will host the World Championships and the first qualification for the Olympic Games, which is the main goal of our athletes.

Of particular importance for Greek rowing are the silver medal won by Zoe Fitziou and Milena Kontou in the light double sculls, and the bronze won by Petros Gaidatsis – Antonis Papakonstantinou in the corresponding men’s boat category. The last time our rowers climbed the podium in this category of boats was in 2012 at the European Championships held in Varese.

In the European Bled, our country took 11th place in the medal table. From 2007 to the present day, Greek rowers have won 38 medals (21-13-4).
