Two months after the release of the film”John Wick: Chapter 4“, Keanu Reeves comes back to continue the story.
Canadian entertainment company Lionsgate has confirmed that it is in the early stages of filming the fifth film in the popular franchise.
Lionsgate CEO Joe Drake told investors that the company is in favor of expanding the John Wick universe. “Now we are expanding not only in the field of electronic games, but also in the creation of spin-offs. This was officially announced, as you know, this is the film “Ballerina” with Anna de Armas in the title role. This is the first spin-off to be released next year. We are in the development phase of three more projects, including John Wick 5 and a series called The Continental. We are constantly building this world.”
John Wick: Chapter 4 hit theaters earlier in the year, impressed audiences and was a major box office success. Given the huge success of the film, it makes sense that Lionsgate wanted to expand the universe.
In 2022, during a CCXP event in São Paulo, Brazil, Reeves hinted that Ballerina is set in the time period between John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum and the fourth chapter. As director Chad Stahelski confirmed, Ballerina takes place during this six-month time frame.
Keanu Reeves is back as John Wick. Together with him in the new film, we will see Ian McShane and Lance Reddick.
Ballerina is expected to release on June 7, 2024, while The Continental will premiere on Peacock in September.
