As the first election results began to be announced, Erdogan’s supporters took to the streets to celebrate with flags and songs.
Addressing his supporters, Tayyip Erdogan stressed that he is the winner of the second round of the presidential elections.
“Our people have entrusted us with running the country for the next five years,” he said from the roof of a bus parked outside his residence in Istanbul, where an enthusiastic crowd had gathered.
Erdogan repeatedly said “goodbye, Mr. Kemal”, following a sister slogan of his followers. “Thank you, God, for answering our prayers,” he said, adding: “The will of our people is iron.”
