
Ukraine said today it faced its biggest drone attack on Kiev overnight since Russian forces began invading the country, with military authorities saying they shot down 52 of 54 kamikaze drones launched by Russian forces, of which more than 40 over the capital.
“In total, a record number of kamikaze drones were launched – 54,” the Ukrainian Air Force said in a Telegram message, noting that “52 were shot down.”
Authorities announced that so far two have been killed and three wounded in Kyiv.
“This is the largest drone attack on the capital since the beginning of the invasion of Russian troops,” the regional military command also reported on Telegram, specifying that this attack was carried out in several waves and the announced combat alert lasted more than 5 hours!
“According to the first data, more than 40 Russian drones were shot down over Kiev by means of air defense,” he said.
According to the regional administration, “after the downing of the drones of the Russian forces, debris fell on a seven-story building” in the Goloseevsky district, as a result of which one person died and another was injured.
The fire also broke out in the warehouse, which spread to 1,000 square meters and led to the death of a man who was there, according to the same source.
“Ambulance services are on the scene,” the regional administration said.
In the Solomensky district, a 41-year-old man died and a 35-year-old woman was hospitalized, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also added.
“Today, the enemy decided to “congratulate” the residents of the capital on the Day of Kyiv with the help of their killer drones,” the regional authorities also ironically noted, referring to today’s celebration in the Ukrainian capital.
According to authorities, this is the 14th Russian drone strike on Kyiv since early May.
A total of 54 kamikaze drones were launched from the Bryansk and Krasnodar regions of Russia, the Ukrainian Air Force said, expressing satisfaction with the downing of 52.
According to her, Russia mainly attacked military facilities and critical infrastructure in the regions of the central part of the country, especially in the Kyiv region.
