USA: Shootout between motorcyclists

Two people were killed and six others injured Saturday, according to police, in a gunfight while riding a motorcycle in Red River, New Mexico (SW).

Motorcyclists began a shootout on the main road of the mountain town, about 190 miles northeast of the state capital Santa Fe, during the annual Memorial Day motorcycle parade, Red River Mayor Linda Calhoun said by phone, Reuters reported.

He added that the number of victims is three dead and five injured.

“They were members of a motorcycle gang,” Ms Calhoun said, declining to provide more details about their identities. “They were all from other places,” he added.

Some 28,000 motorcyclists were expected to take part in the march, which includes concerts and memorial services in the nearby town of Angel Fire.

Some of the injured were taken to a hospital in Taos, 25 miles (40 km) southwest, state police said on Twitter.

City officials in Taos banned the sale of alcohol and imposed a curfew after the bloody incident.

Eight years ago, 9 bikers were killed and 18 injured in a gunfight between gang members in Waco, Texas.
