Servia Bridge: Opening next week for IX

“If the results of the measurements carried out by the specialist scientists on the Serbian bridge are good, it is considered certain that the bridge will be open to traffic next week. cars and small trucks up to three tons,” said the regional governor of Western Macedonia Giorgos Kasapidis during a press conference.

Mr. Kasapidis explained that the traffic will be one-way and in only one stream, and its regulation will be carried out by traffic lights. He assured that “from now on, the bridge will not be closed, at least to IX vehicles, but only for a short time” when further work is carried out to complete the project.

Regarding the issue of compensation for professional groups in the municipalities of Servia and Velventou who have suffered from the ban on crossing the bridge, he stressed that data collection is ongoing so that “with the completion of the work, we can document the financial damage suffered by the professionals and entrepreneurs of the area.”

The Serbs Bridge is the second longest bridge in the country after Rio de Janeiro and was completed in 1975 when PPC built the Polifotos Dam, creating one of the largest artificial lakes in Greece.

On March 17, 2023, for safety reasons, the passage of all vehicles on the bridge was prohibited for restoration work on its consoles – bridge supports, as well as its reinforcement with new steel reinforcement.
