The CEO of Nvidia, the world’s largest semiconductor company, has warned that the US tech industry risks “tremendous damage” from the “microchip battle” between the US and China.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Jensen Huang said the Biden administration’s export restrictions aimed at slowing down China’s semiconductor manufacturing have “tied the hands” of the Silicon Valley giant, which unable to sell advanced chips in one of the company’s largest markets. At the same time, Chinese companies are creating their own chips to compete with Nvidia processors in games, graphics and artificial intelligence.
“If (China) cannot buy from the US, it will produce them itself,” Huang said. “So the US needs to be careful. China is a very important market for the technology industry.”
