Publishers’ objections to the multiple book

The Hellenic Book Association and the Association of Science Book Publishers have announced their intention to stay away from the new multi-book system that will be implemented in schools from 2024.

1) Provide an extension of the application deadline and the submission of Study Packages to allow time for consultations and finalization of the terms of the invitation so that the whole process can be streamlined.

2) Change the way training packages are approved. We ask that approval or rejection be done first. In particular, we propose that a set period of time be set for each stakeholder to submit a small part of the training package they intend to create and, if approved, that both parties commit to complete the project and for an agreed fee. In addition, it would be good to cooperate with the author groups and evaluation committees from the very beginning, so that the authors take into account any comments from the evaluation committee to improve the training package.

3) Fees must be consistent and independent of the percentage of schools choosing each study package. A specific time for payment of the fee must be determined after the final approval of the training package.

4) The wording of the Invitation “I waive any right to compensation arising from any decision of the Ministry of Education, in particular in connection with the postponement, cancellation or cancellation of the process of creating the Register based on the Call for Expression of Interest No. 46978 / GD4” and any equivalent in ministerial decisions to be removed in accordance with its letter and spirit. Revise the terms and procedure for the payment of remuneration-compensations.

5) Re-evaluate the training packages taking into account all of the above and especially taking into account the requirements of the terms of reference. Some of these specifications are costly and disproportionate to the functional outcome (for example, books must also be presented in the responsive epub format, and digital learning objects must meet specific accessibility specifications).

6) Intellectual property rights must be fully respected and the conditions for granting ownership must be clearly stated.
