Elections – Varoufakis: letter to the political secretariat MeRA25

In a letter to the political secretariat MeRA25 Mr. Janis Varoufakis commented on the May 21 election results, saying it was “a hard defeat for MeRA25, but an even harder defeat for the left as a whole.”

Yes, it was a heavy defeat for MePA25, but an even worse defeat for the left in general, for the movements, for the very principles of Humanism. However, the timer resets and the race resumes, giving us the opportunity to try again with a completely different result this time. It’s in our hands.

Now is the Hour of the Decisive Battle, in which we owe it to progressive voters: “Do you want this vote in the House of Representatives?”, adding: “It’s up to you!” “Things could be different.”

Starting this morning, we began regrouping our forces both electorally and organizationally in order to attract thousands of voters who recognize the value of our vote in parliament, but did not vote for us yesterday. Tomorrow evening there will be a meeting of our Political Secretariat, which will be asked to approve the convening of the MePA25-Union for Disintegration Central Electoral Commission, as well as the MePA25 Central Committee, which will approve the final composition of the ballots, as well as the organization of our election campaign.

Let me conclude by expressing my deep gratitude to each and every one of you for working so hard to instill hope in the citizens you have reached out to.

Perhaps far fewer people voted for us than we expected. But there are too many who regretted not voting for us and are ready to do so next time, in a few weeks, when elections will be organized again. It’s up to you, up to us to convince them to do so.

With the commitment that as long as we breathe we will not give up, and that things may be different in the upcoming elections, I send you fellow travelers my best regards.”
