Andy Murray will not participate in this year’s Roland Garros (May 28 – June 11) to focus more on preparing for Wimbledon, which starts on July 3.

The second Grand Slam tournament of the year starts next Sunday, and Andy Murray still hasn’t found the best form in the clay season, writes The Guardian.

The former world number one announced that his priority at the moment is the chance to get in really good shape at Wimbledon.

“I will have to talk to my team and make a decision. It is better to pay special attention to your career at this time. I trust my body, but I realize that my best chance will be at Wimbledon,” Andy Murray said.

Defeated by Fabio Foghini in the first round at ATP Rome, Murray meanwhile also crashed out of another clay-court tournament, being knocked out by Stan Wawrinka at the Bordeaux Challenger.

The 36-year-old won the Challenger in Aix-en-Provence this month, his first title in almost four years, but exited the Monte Carlo and Madrid tournaments in the first round.

A three-time Grand Slam winner (US Open 2021, Wimbledon 2013 and 2016), Murray played in the 2016 Roland Garros final when he was defeated by Novak Djokovic.

After reaching the semi-finals in 2017, the Brit has only competed once at the 2020 French Open, being knocked out in the first round by Stan Wawrinka.
