The video published by the Ukrainian forces shows how an unmanned kamikaze drone fired at a Russian T-72 tank, on top of which the Russians, in turn, installed a protective frame.
The protective roofs and cages improvised by the Russians on tank turrets are nothing new. These were seen before the start of the war and were theoretically intended to defend against anti-tank missiles such as the Javelin and NLAW, which can also attack from above, hitting the turret where the tank’s armor is usually thinnest.
Unfortunately for the Russians, such improvisations did not help much, and Javelin, NLAW and other types of guided missile strikes were no less effective. Many netizens joked that these cages are more of a morale booster than something that actually provides increased protection.
Now the Ukrainians are showing what happens when such a “protected” tank is hit with even weaker explosives. In particular, the Ukrainians created improvised kamikaze drones by attaching grenade launchers (for example, AG-7, RPG).
The video shows how the first such drone with a grenade hits the full tower, just below the protective clip. However, after this first hit, it is not clear whether the tank was actually damaged or not. In the same way, it is not clear whether there were Russian military personnel in it or not.
OP another hit with a similar kamikaze drone has a stronger effect. The drone hits the tank right in front and explodes more, even though the tank also has dynamic armor. The tank doesn’t look destroyed, but maybe it was still damaged…
