Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina (47 WTA) made a surprise and reached the final of the “WTA 1000” tournament in Rome, defeating Russian Veronika Kudermetova (12 WTA) with a score of 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.

After an even first set, Kudermetova, seeded at number 11, eventually conceded, and the Ukrainian took full advantage.

Although she led 5-3 in the second set, Kalinina squandered a chance to close out the match sooner and the Russian came back to win four games in a row.

In the decisive set, Kalinin started perfectly, led 4:0 and did not miss the victory, although at the end she fell at speed.

The game lasted two hours and 53 minutes.

In the finals of the tournament in Rome, Angelina Kalinina will meet the winner of Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina (6 WTA) and Latvia’s Elena Ostapenko (20 WTA).

WTA Rome takes place from May 9 to 20 on the clay in the Foro Italico complex. His total prize money is $3,572,618 and is in the “WTA 1000” category. Iga Svyatek became the champion of the last two competitions.
