The French Ministry of the Armed Forces intends to order 130 additional armored vehicles – 38 Jaguar and 92 Griffon – to replace the AMX-10 light tanks and frontal armored vehicles (VAB) sent to Ukraine, AFP and Agerpres reported on Friday.
In an amendment to the draft law on military programming (LPM) for the period 2024-2030, submitted before the discussion of the text in the National Assembly, the French government envisages that by 2030 it will have a fleet of 238 Jaguars, armored reconnaissance vehicles and combat equipped with 40 mm cannon, compared to 200 given in the first version of the text.
It also foresees a total of 1,437 Griffon armored vehicles for the French armed forces in 2030, compared to the 1,345 originally planned.
By the end of 2023, the French army is expected to have 60 Jaguars and 575 Griffons.
France sent AMX-10 armored vehicles to Ukraine
Since the beginning of January, France has transferred several dozen – Paris refuses to give the exact number – AMX-10 armored vehicles, armored reconnaissance vehicles equipped with a cannon and VABs for troop transport.

The replacement of these old armored vehicles, which have begun to be phased out, is not taking place in proportion to each other, sources close to French Minister of Armed Forces Sebastien Lecorne said.
According to this source, it is “a replacement for equivalent capabilities to preserve the force’s format for responding to operational contracts.”
The military program bill provides €413.3 billion in resources for the armed forces between 2024 and 2030.
The final fleet of 300 Jaguars and 1,818 Griffons is scheduled to be delivered in 2035, up from 2030 under the previous military programming law.
