The TRAI Index was launched in 2022 by Storia.ro, OLX’s real estate platform, and aims to be with everyone looking for a home. as? It’s just. TRAI is a platform that brings together information provided by various tools such as Google Places, Airly, Google Traffic and Storia.ro, and starting this year, with your help, it aims to include the opinion of people living in centralized areas and cities in platform

What is TRAI Index?

The TRAI index measures the main indicators of well-being in Romanian districts: Tgust, Rhorses, ANDera and andfurniture (cost per square meter) and available in beta here.

The index was developed on four levels and extract the data like this:

1. MOVEMENT – Displays accurate traffic and speed data in relation to the maximum speed limit in the area. The closer the indicator is to 100, the less traffic there is in the selected area. Traffic information is pulled from Google Traffic.

2. MARKING – Consider the total number of shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, nurseries, schools, parks, playgrounds, medical facilities and public transport available in the area. The closer the indicator is to 100, the more interesting places per square meter. Points of Interest data comes from Google Places on the map.

3. AIR – Constantly monitors air quality by pollution indicators: suspended particles, nitrogen oxides, O3, SO2, CO, temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity and wind. The higher the index and closer to 100, the cleaner the air in the selected area. Air quality information is extracted from the airly.org platform.

4. REAL ESTATE – Calculates the average cost per square meter of housing in the selected neighborhood compared to the average real estate prices in the country. The closer the index is to 100, the more expensive the houses in the area. Real estate data is extracted from the Storia.ro platform.

For example, the ideal apartment for you should be located near a park, be in an area with the cleanest air possible, be close to shops and be sold or rented at an affordable price. Check the index and quickly see which areas meet these conditions. You also know that it is a reliable source and you can rely on it, because the index, as I said before, receives data from reliable tools such as Google Traffic, Airly, Google Places and Storia.ro.

Of course, for the system to work, you also need to be a good neighbor. Fill out the questionnaire about your area and help others find their dream home. It’s great that TRAI exists, but you can never have too much information at your fingertips if you have to choose where you stay most of the time 🙂

The questionnaire contains 22 questions with multiple choice answers (definitely yes, rather yes, yes and yes, rather no, definitely no, I don’t have an opinion) and tries to find out how safe you think the area where you live, how clean it is, what is the situation with parking spaces, public transport, cycle paths or how much noise is a problem in your area.

To date, more than 195,000 people have completed the survey, and more than 670,000 users have visited the platform since its launch. The data collected from the questionnaire will later be used to update the index, which will give a more detailed and broader picture of life in different areas of Romanian cities.
