ATP Rome final without Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic for the first time in 19 years

The last final in Rome that did not feature Nadal and Djokovic was in 2004, when Carlos Moya beat David Nalbandian 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

Since the 2005 edition, at least one of the major players has reached the final act of the competition. Then Nadal beat Guillermo Coria, and Djokovic’s first final was in 2008 (victory over Stan Wawrinka).

The first meeting between Nadal and Djokovic in the last action in Rome took place in 2009, and the Iberian won.

Rafa was unable to play on clay in Rome this year due to injury (he could also miss Roland Garros) and Nole lost in three sets to Dane Rune.
