
Two men were hospitalized Wednesday morning after two locomotives collided in Giurgiu County.
The locomotives belong to a private operator, Digi24 reports.
According to the investigation, the driver of the locomotive did not listen to the stop signal and was intoxicated, writes Breaking News Giurgiu.
A breathalyzer would show 0.64 mg/l of pure alcohol in exhaled air, the local publication writes.
In addition, one of the locomotives would not have a running order.
“Two men aged 55 and 58 were admitted to the hospital this night after a railway accident that occurred between the cities of Toporu and Kyriakou. The incident happened approximately one kilometer from the Toporu station, between two locomotives,” ISU Giurgiu announced on Wednesday morning, reports news.ro.
The quoted source clarified that firefighters from ISU Giurgiu and ISU Teleorman went to the incident with two special fire engines, an evacuation, two SMURD ambulances and two Giurgiu County ambulances.
“The crews established that there were three men in the locomotives, they were conscious and operational. Two of them were captured by the SAJ and transported to the Giorgi Ambulance Union,” the quoted source added.
According to ISU Giurgiu, another man, 57 years old, was treated at the scene and refused to be transported to the hospital for further examination.
“Railway tracks were not damaged, only two locomotives were damaged. The case remained under the consideration of the competent authorities for investigation,” the cited source also reported.
