A large amount of cocaine was seized at the port of Gioia Tauro in Italy. Local media reports that Reggio Calabria authorities and customs officers found two tons and 734 kilograms of pure cocaine in containers from Guayaquil, Ecuador, bound for Armenia via the port of Batumi, Georgia.
According to ERT, the drugs were placed in containers hidden among 78 tons of bananas.
The cocaine was discovered after a long and difficult search operation using sophisticated scanners provided by customs and Joel’s sniffer dog.
The media, among other things, write that the drugs in six containers were hidden in different ways. Drug cover-up methods are often varied and constantly evolving, forcing investigators to improve their detection methods from time to time.
