
The Athens security sub-directorate made 18 arrests as part of a new special operation aimed at combating “street crimes” in the wider area of the center of Athens, which took place from 13 to yesterday, 15 May. At the same time, 26 thefts, 8 frauds and 3 robberies were revealed.
In particular, according to ELAS:
Three members of the gang were arrested for theft. The gang is accused of committing a total of 19 thefts from August 22, 2021 to May 5, 2023, of which 6 from shops and 13 from car interiors, in the Acropolis and Kallithea areas. At the same time, the identities of two more of its members have been identified and are on the wanted list for arrest.
The man was arrested for fraud with citizens. As it became known during the preliminary investigation, from October 27, 2022 to January 18, 2022, the detainee committed a total of 8 frauds.
11 foreigners were arrested, charged, as the case may be, with obtaining and distributing proceeds of crime, violating drug and weapons laws, and disloyalty and violence against officials and the judiciary. During searches carried out by the police in the houses, they found and confiscated, among other things: a large number of money order receipts, burglary and decoration tools, 64 wristwatches, 80 medicinal tablets, two knives, an air pistol and an antique pistol.
There were 3 arrests, depending on the circumstances, for violation of gun laws and convictions. In particular, 2 women were arrested in the Kaminia region, as 20 sentences of 18 years and 2 months in prison and 5 years in prison were expected against them, and the second – 6 months in prison. At the same time, a man was detained in the Kolonos region, as 3 knives were found and confiscated from him.
Also, cases were initiated against 4 people in the usual manner for committing especially professional thefts due to occupation, habit and subsequent investigation, 7 cases of theft from residential premises were investigated.
Finally, indictments were also brought against 4 other people who, depending on the circumstances, committed robberies against an accomplice and gun laws, and 3 cases of robberies were also investigated.
