The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and SAP confirmed that they had uncovered a “large-scale corruption scheme in the Supreme Court” by the court’s management and judges.

Anti-corruption authorities do not officially specify the names of the suspects and the amount of the bribe received. Both agencies said details would be released during the investigation. The message of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau is accompanied by a photo of a sofa on which several wads of money lie.

Vsevolod Knyazev heads the Supreme Court of Ukraine from December 1, 2021.

The ZN.UA news portal, citing sources in the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, wrote that Knyazev received money from people who wanted to obtain a court decision in favor of Ukrainian billionaire Konstantin Zhevago.

The Supreme Court reviewed the case regarding Zhevago’s ownership of 40.19% of the shares of the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant, part of the Ferrexpo group, ruling that this allowed Zhevago to keep the shares. On February 2, the SBU notified the plant’s chief accountant of suspicion of tax evasion and official forgery.

According to the investigation, in 2018-2021, the suspect allegedly entered false information into the company’s documents, which led to the evasion of 2 billion hryvnias ($54.6 million) in taxes to the state budget. (Source: News.ro / Photo: Dreamstime.com)
