On Monday in Farmington, New Mexico (in the southwestern United States), at least three people were killed and several others were injured, including two police officers, as a result of an armed attack, the city police said.

“There are several civilian victims, of which at least three have died,” said the message of law enforcement agencies published on social networks, according to AFP and Agerpres agencies. “We will provide more details as they become available,” they added.

The attacker was “killed on the spot”, said the police of this city with a population of 50,000 inhabitants, located in the north of this state on the border with Mexico.

“The identity of the suspect is unknown, and there are currently no other known threats,” law enforcement officers added.

The intruder was confronted by several policemen, two of whom were injured. They are currently being treated at a city hospital and are in a “stable condition”, according to police.

Local schools were briefly closed but were allowed to reopen on Monday afternoon as local schools officials said “all students and staff are safe”.

Gun violence has been extremely common in the United States for many years. In 2023, the Gun Violence Archive website has already recorded more than 220 attacks that have resulted in the death or injury of more than four people.​
