Bordeaux ZFE: we finally know the rules Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

ZFEs have been around for a while, but they used to be called ZCRs (restricted traffic zones). A new name for a similar system based on the Crit’Air sticker to distinguish cars that are eligible or not for this perimeter. Currently, most ZFEs are prohibited for cars with stickers 4 and 5, as well as unclassified. But that will change again as over the years the rules will also tighten with the banning of Crit’Air 3 and eventually all thermal machines. But while all major cities should be concerned, some are taking their time.

Not yet

This is, for example, a case Bordeaux. Indeed, the agglomeration is one of the few in France that has not become a ZFE-m (low mobility emission zones) in recent years. And this is thanks to some elected officials who mobilized to delay the implementation of this measure. And the latter won their case, since it should not be applied at least to January 1, 2025. Enough for motorists to breathe a little. This date was not chosen by chance, because it is then that PZZ will become mandatory throughout the country.

Strict prohibition

We already know some of the rules for this the future EPZ, and they will be quite strict. Indeed, unauthorized cars will be strictly prohibited 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, unlike what is done, for example, in Paris. And be careful, because the sanctions should fall as soon as the measure takes effect. However, 2024 will be considered a transitional year to allow motorists to get used to this new rule, which is mandatory for many.
