A 25-year-old man broke into several churches in Bucharest, where he stole money from the “charity box” as well as valuables. According to the police, he stole the relics of St. John Chrysostom, as well as gold objects, from the chapel of St. Elizabeth – Kotrochen.

According to the Metropolitan Police, on Thursday, the police conducted two searches in Ilfov and Kelerashi counties in a criminal case on crimes of qualified theft.

The police say that the target is a 25-year-old man who would break into several churches in Bucharest during this year, where he would steal various goods that would be part of the national cultural heritage.

As a result of the searches, a number of things were discovered and seized, including items of religious worship, and the man was discovered and will be taken to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The investigation was undertaken by the Criminal Investigation Service, as these are assets that will be part of the national cultural heritage.

Judicial sources informed HotNews.ro that on April 30, a thief stole from the chapel of St. Elizabeth – the crushed relics of St. John Chrysostom, as well as gold objects and money from a candlestick. During the same period, he also stole money from the alms box and other items from the Church of the Hero-Martyrs and the parish of Crămidarii de Sus.
