Election 2023 – Debate: Monologues without news or surprises

The suffocating conditions televised showdowns of political leadersbut their choice to act conservatively, following the beaten path, perhaps also with the fear of some kind of failure or mistake that could have been disproportionately costly in the days before the election, did not allow surprises in yesterday’s debate.

However, the choice of the previous days regarding the strategy with which they will act in the last meters of the race has been confirmed.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis left open the possibility of extending the market pass for the second half of the year during its placement in the first round of questions. SYRIZA President Alexis Tsipras made it clear that if he wins, his government is not going to question the arms contracts that the country has signed, but noted that it will require more involvement of the domestic defense industry.

PASOK President Nikos Androulakis once again vetoed the nominations of Mr. Mitsotakis and Tsipras for the post of Prime Minister in case of cooperation, while he noted that he had not received an official invitation to meet with Mr. Mitsotakis.

c.g. KKE member Dimitris Koutsoubas described his party’s program as realistic, while Hellenic Solution president Kyriakos Velopoulos advocated alliances with countries such as China, Russia and India. MeRA25 secretary Janis Varoufakis has returned with an alternative payment method “Dimitra”.

At the same time, the “six” of political leaders stated, in particular, the following:

The topic of wiretapping dominated the third section, where the Prime Minister noted that he did not think about resigning because of the scandal, “however, he courageously took up his duties when he learned about this case.” Mr Mitsotakis acknowledged that “the explanations given for the surveillance were insufficient” while Mr Tsipras raised his voice and said, “Let the Prime Minister finally explain why he was following Mr Androulakis.” The President of PASOK spoke about the crisis of institutions and the “parastate”. At the same time, Mr. Koutsoumbas and Mr. Varoufakis closed the window of “progressive governance” and the president of MeRA25 said that “progressive parties have closed the door to reconciliation.” Meanwhile, in the “chapter” on health, Mr. Velopoulos, referring to the topic of vaccination, said that “I cannot commit myself, my body belongs to me.” The prime minister emphasized that “long delays in operations and ranches are unacceptable,” while Mr Tsipras insisted that “the minimum entry base will be abolished under a progressive government.”

At the same time, political leaders, among other things, said:

The Prime Minister proposed in the last part of the debate that party programs be evaluated by the State Accounting Office, with Mr Tsipras emphasizing that in 2022 “we had excess revenue from high VAT. 4.5 billion euros” and asking “why is Mr. Mitsotakis not cutting taxes?”, concluding that “PPC is currently the main protagonist in speculation, but it will return to public scrutiny”. On energy and infrastructure cost issues, “steps have been taken, there have also been setbacks and delays,” the prime minister said, among other things, adding that his government is and will continue to be paying “great attention to fixed orbit means.” The PASOK president, on the contrary, argued that even under the current regime, that is, with state control over 34% of the shares of the PPC, there can be decisions in favor of society. Mr. Koutsoubas, for his part, accused governments of criminal policies in specific sectors, and Mr. Velopoulos reaffirmed his position in favor of extracting natural gas and oil from our country, with which the head of MeRA25 does not agree. As for unity for the New Generation, despite differences, political leaders agreed that young people need to go to the polls on May 21 to choose the party they want.
At the same time, among other things, political leaders stated:

K. Mitsotakis: “A mistake becomes a mistake when it is repeated. The rank that will enter the government will be from all Greeks and will be the electoral percentage that the ND will receive. in the May 21 elections.

Al. Tsipras: “Papandreou was said to have stolen the slogans of the left. Now I’m being accused of stealing passwords. This is because the right-wing Mr. Mitsotakis is making these slogans at the moment.”

N. Androulakis: “Support young couples with social housing, as Portugal does. The surveillance case is a crime against human rights. The perpetrators must be held accountable.”

D. Kutsubas: “SYRIZA is scratching the shepherd’s pie with its approach to the KKE under the guise of progressive management, and this also applies to energy.”

K. Velopoulos: “I apologize to the rookies that we didn’t do anything to thwart Tempi.”

G. Varoufakis: “Civil War Climate Cultivated by Mitsotakis A.E. in universities it undermines the flow of ideas.”
