
Men’s handball team Steaua (Bucharest) announced on Wednesday that they have signed Valentin Gionea (39), a player who played for rival Dynamo for the past three seasons.

“OFFICIALLY. Vali Gionea is a star player! The contract with our far-right team was signed in the presence of the club management. Gionea played the last three seasons in Dynamo and is one of the most important Romanian players.
Valentin Gionea is the Romanian handball player with the most goals in the Champions League. He played in no less than 15 editions of the most important interclub competition. He has 3 matches for Dynamo, 3 for Peak Szeged, 1 for HCM Konstanz, 6 for Wisla Plotsk and 2 for Sporting Lisbon. In 15 League seasons, he scored 554 goals.
He played for Romania at the 2009 World Cup as well as the 2011 World Cup. He has more than 150 matches in Romania’s shirt and scored more than 700 goals,” Steaua said in a press release.
