Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi says that when people know the honest history, they increasingly see common points between Nazi aggression in World War II and Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. “It is only a matter of time when we will be able to restore a strong and just peace for our part of Europe, for Ukraine. And today, May 9, we, together with all of free Europe, celebrate Europe Day to pay tribute to an achievement that simply would not have happened if there had been no victory over Nazism. We would not have such a united Europe – a Europe without aggression and without revanchism, a Europe that respects different cultures, that resolves disputes exclusively in the legal sphere and that is proud of the diversity on our continent,” Zelensky said in a message sent on Tuesday evening .

He added: “The more people know the honest history, the more they see in common between the brutal aggressions of the 20th and 21st centuries, the more they will appreciate that continuity. The Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War, and immediately after it – the Day of Europe, Europe as the embodied dream of a peaceful continent. And it is only a matter of time when we will be able to restore a strong and just peace for our part of Europe, for Ukraine. It is only a matter of time when the current aggressor will lose, as the aggressor lost 78 years ago, until Russian revanchism will be crushed by the courage of our soldiers and the united power of the free world,” the President of Ukraine emphasized. .

He noted that the visit to Kyiv on this day by the President of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen, is symbolic. Zelensky noted that they discussed defense, sanctions against Russia, the eleventh package of such sanctions is being prepared, as well as political prospects for European integration.

“Of course, we also discussed the export dispute with our EU neighbors. We must overcome this in the clear spirit of the framework agreement that exists between us,” Zelenskyy said.

He also mentioned the meeting of partners who are advocating the creation of a tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as discussions with students of European universities.

“There is still good news from our partners. From what can be said publicly, this is a new defense package from the United States. The total cost is 1.2 billion dollars. Artillery, protection against terrorists’ missiles and drones, etc. to strengthen our defenders,” Volodymyr Zelenskyi said.

He thanked the French Parliament for the decision to recognize Wagner’s group as a terrorist organization.

“This is what the whole world should adopt – every manifestation of terrorism must be destroyed and every terrorist must be condemned. And, of course, today, after the terrorist state once again tried to torture our people and once again lost to the defenders of our sky, I thank our Air Force and all soldiers of other categories of troops who provide air defense,” Zelenskyy concluded.
