Mykonos: Bulldozer engines are getting hot

When drawing up demolition protocols in Mykonos which have been finalized in previous years, is focused on the state. Most of them, however, do not correspond to particularly serious urban violationsas in the years of the construction service on the island itself, its effect was … very limited.

Considering that his affairs Principot and his Nammos are not amenable to “immediate demolition by a bulldozer”, as desired by the government, attention is drawn to the old cases that lie in the boxes of services. There are very few cases of final demolition protocols being drawn up in Mykonos, which is probably due to the insufficient functioning of the building service when it was run by the municipality of Mykonos (it has been transferred to Syros for several years, while the municipality of Mykonos asks to take it again) .

According to the information, when in 2018 Ministry of the Environment asked all delegated administrations to send details of the final demolition protocols in their hands for execution (in order to obtain resources from Green fund for their execution), the Aegean Decentralized Administration submitted only six for Mykonos. In fact, none of them concern illegal structures, except for stairs (seaward), illegal configurations, “slips” for private boats and just a wooden covered area of 50 sq.m. (near Elia). These protocols have not been followed.

Yesterday, Nammos’ petition to “freeze” the administrative process was considered by the Tripartite Court of Appeal in Athens. The municipality of Mykonos demands the return of construction services (from Syros).

It is worth noting that the last time arbitrary demolition in Mykonos was in 2013 and concerned unauthorized buildings in the areas of Ftelia, Agios Stefanos, Puli, Lia and Ornos. For this project, the Aegean Decentralized Administration received funding of €73,000 from the Green Fund, while the corresponding amount was allocated arbitrarily in Astypalea and Naxos. The same decentralized company completed a small demolition contract (€20,000) in the forested areas of Rhodes in 2016 and also secured €935,000 funding for random demolitions on the beaches and forests in Rhodes (421 demolition protocols) in 2018.

The tender was won in 2020, but the contractor then withdrew, and before Decentralized resumed the process, the government imposed a moratorium on building demolition on the coasts and forests throughout the country, which eventually reached two years with successive extensions ending in end of March 2023. Therefore, there were no demolitions in Rhodes either.

As for Mykonos, the request of the owners and tenants of Nammos to “freeze” the administrative procedure (imposition of a fine, etc.) was considered yesterday in the Tripartite Court of Appeal of Athens without a decision. until last night. However, the people from Nammos told management that they would proceed to dismantle the four tanks and two containers that had been installed without permission, and environmental inspectors included them in their demolition protocol. For a two-storey building with an area of 500 sq.m. and an auxiliary basement floor of 35 sq.m, the Nammos side claims that they are both legalized.
