At the press conference held on Tuesday, the head of the Central Commission of Referees, Kyros Vassaras, analyzed the phases of the CFR match and responded to Dan Petrescu.

The coach of the champion of Romania did not agree with the withdrawal of the red card received by Andrii Ivan, nor with the stage after which the Olten team scored.

“During this phase, nothing else needs to be checked before scoring except the position of the author. No foul before the offensive team’s possession phase. The assistant referee allows play to continue without raising the flag, so the decision on the field is invalid.

VAR scrutinizes when each goal is scored. The VAR and replay operator look for the correct frame to determine when the ball was kicked and played by the scorer’s teammate to start the triangulation procedure immediately afterwards.

He takes several measurements, asking the replay operator to mark each part of the body that is closest to the goal line from both angles of the shot. These marking points are the defender’s leg with the attacker’s shoulder and the defender’s leg with the attacker’s hip.

Since there is a camera calibration, the VAR requests the measurement result for these points with the available cameras and the system provides the result for each case.

After scoring all the necessary points, the result in this case is that there was no offside and the goal remains. A very clear and fair decision of the assistant referee.

The defender tries to turn the body, and the attacker plays the ball first, which falls under the elbow of the opponent on the part of the arm that is adjacent to the body.

The defender did not play the ball with an elbow or higher. There is no other position in which the defender can put his hand. The referee correctly allows the game to continue.” – he said, reports FRF TV.
