Pro-Ukrainian activists prevented the Russian ambassador in Poland from laying a wreath at the mausoleum of Soviet soldiers in Warsaw today on Victory Day.

Dozens of activists set up an art installation at the entrance to the mausoleum, including hundreds of Ukrainian flags and crosses, in memory of Ukrainians who died during the Russian invasion launched by Moscow in February 2022, according to AFP journalists.

This facility also contained several mock-ups of residential buildings destroyed by Russian bombardments in various cities of Ukraine.

Russian Ambassador Sergei Andreev, who was trying to lay a wreath at the mausoleum, ran into activists and was eventually forced to leave flowers at the entrance to the territory.

“As you can see, we are faced with a clear violation of public order. Unfortunately, for the second time we were not able to lay wreaths at the monument to Soviet soldiers who died here in the war against fascism,” Andreev emphasized, condemning today’s event.

Last year, the Russian ambassador again clashed with protesters at the same location when activists threw a red substance at the diplomat.

Victoria Pogrebyank, an activist for the pro-Ukrainian Euromaidan organization, told AFP that the purpose of today’s protest was “to show the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

“Of course, they will try to show that they are still fighting fascism … In fact, they revived fascism, which was given a different name,” he added.

Euromaidan activists also called on Poland to expel the Russian ambassador.
