We have heard of a delay due to technical issues, weather or air traffic. Delay due to… swarms of beesrarely.
Yet the passengers of Delta Airlines Flight 1682 were about to board the plane when they were informed that the A320 was stuck at Houston George W. Bush International Airport due to a swarm of bees that had taken over one wing.
One of the passengers, Robert Earl Glenn, photographed the “travelling” swarm.
In a playful mood, the airline informed its customers that “the friendly swarm of bees apparently wanted to talk to the wing about their business,” without failing to apologize for the inconvenience.
A Delta Air Lines flight was delayed for hours after a swarm of bees gathered on the plane’s wingtip, prompting the airline to delay the flight while it tried to convince the insects to leave.

Finally, after a nearly five-hour delay, the Airbus took off after ground personnel managed to clear the swarm from its wing.
According to the company, bee swarming in an aircraft “is a rare but not unheard of occurrence” and can occur on any open structure where the insects are found in the wild.
