American actor Tom Cruise appeared on board the plane, in a series of videos projected at a concert organized in honor of the new monarch at Windsor Castle, inviting King Charles III to be his companion.
In a pre-recorded segment titled ‘Did you know?’, which aired just before Lionel Richie took to the stage at a concert at Windsor Castle, former 007 agent Pierce Brosnan revealed that the king was the ‘longest serving Prince of Wales in many years. 64 years old,” writes Variety.
Before ascending to the throne last September, Charles’ title was Prince of Wales, which has now passed to his eldest son, Prince William.
“During this time, the King developed a number of skills as a man of action,” continued Brosnan.
Bear Grylls then added, “He’s also a naval aviator and a trained commando helicopter pilot in the Navy Air Force.”
The next shot shows Tom Cruise piloting a fighter jet and saying, “Pilot to pilot, your majesty, you can be my teammate anytime.”
King Charles, who in royal tradition served in the Navy as well as the Royal Air Force, trained as an airplane and helicopter pilot.
This is not the first time Tom Cruise has attended a royal event. He attended the funeral of Charles’ first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997 with his then-wife Nicole Kidman.
The press reported that he was a “close friend” of the princess after meeting her at the London premiere of the romantic drama Far and Away, in which he co-starred with Nicole Kidman in 1992.
And last year, William and Catherine, Prince and Princess of Wales, attended the London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, where Cruise broke royal protocol by leading Catherine by the hand up the stairs and into the auditorium.
