On Sunday evening, Justice Minister Katelin Predou referred to images of CSM vice-president Daniel Horodnicanu threatening police officers, saying “what happened there is wrong” and that “the approach was wrong”.
Catalin Preda was asked on Sunday in Prima News about the situation in which Daniel Horodnicanu, vice-president of the Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM) and former chief prosecutor of DIICOT, was shot.
“Mr. Prosecutor Horodnicanu, vice-president of CSM, gave a statement today in which he shows that he understood that he acted wrongly in that situation, that he regrets it, he allowed himself to be provoked. (…) The context is deplorable, as he also said, the attitude is deplorable, it’s obviously wrong from start to finish, but it’s important that he got there. He expressed his regret about what happened. I think it’s fair to say that too. (…) I agree with what Mr. Horodnichan himself said, what happened there was wrong, the approach was wrong. The best way in such a situation is to think about where you went wrong, what you did wrong, admit it and express regret, preferably sincerely,” said the Minister of Justice, as quoted by News.ro.
He believes that the whole situation needs to be clarified.
“These aspects, if he believes that they should be clarified, then they should be clarified to the end, this is the whole context, and even if he does not believe it, I believe that they should be clarified. I would also refer to the statement of the chairman of the Higher Council of Magistracy, who said that he would analyze this situation. But the first step in balancing the whole story in the good sense of the word was this statement, and it’s good that he did and noted that he understands that this is abnormal behavior in such a situation,” he explained to Katalin Preda.
When asked what Daniel Horodnicanu risks after this incident, the Minister of Justice replied: “From now on, I have to put myself in the position of a government official and refrain from making any statements until we see something official related to this incident. (…) What concerns the behavior of the magistrate in society belongs to the competence of the CSM as an institution.”
Daniel Horodničana, the former chief prosecutor of DIICOT, was stopped on the road by Iași police officers, after which he asked the law enforcement officers if they knew who he was and also threatened to contact the Iași District Police Chief.
