What is the flyback function in watchmaking? This is a very practical feature that allows the owner of the watch to restart the chronograph without stopping it. This allows you to measure events faster and more accurately. Unlike “regular” chronographs that require separate movements to activate the pause, reset and restart buttons, the Spirit Flyback performs all three actions with the push of a single button.
This complex feature is nothing new for Longines. We meet her in several of her models, looking back at her rich historical heritage. The first Longines flyback chronographs were introduced almost a century ago, in 1925. In fact, in 1935 a Swiss company applied for a patent, which was granted in 1936. This was the first time that pilots were able to quickly and easily time the various stages of a flight, making it easier for them to navigate.
The new Spirit Flyback Chronograph has a 42 mm diameter and 17 mm thick stainless steel case, equipped with a bi-directional rotating bezel with a colored ceramic surface with luminescent indicators. Although the watch is designed for broadcasting, it can withstand a pressure of 10 atmospheres, so it remains water resistant to a depth of 100 meters.
Under the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, the dial of the Spirit Flyback chronograph is a bi-compact type, that is, it has two horizontal counters. Available in black or blue with sunburst effect.
The hands and large Arabic numerals are bronze-coloured and, of course, coated with Super-LumiNova so that they can be read in any light.
Of course, the main star of this model is the mechanism. It is an exclusive Longines automatic column-wheel caliber L791.4 chronograph movement with a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and a power reserve of 68 hours. It also has an anti-magnetic silicon balance spring and is certified by the official Swiss body COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres).
Thanks to the transparent case back, you can admire the details of the movement, as well as a special rotor engraved with the globe symbol of the Spirit collection.
Another important feature of the Spirit Flyback Chronograph is that it has an easy bracelet/strap change system and a micro-adjustment clasp for a perfect fit and comfort on the wrist. You can choose from a steel bracelet, a brown leather or blue fabric strap, or a beige NATO-style strap.
As for its price? €5,050 (with bracelet), €4,950 (with leather, fabric or NATO strap)
