German Jan Lennard Struff (65 ATP) performed brilliantly at the ATP 1000 tournament in Madrid, managing to reach the final after defeating Russian Aslan Karatsev (121 ATP).

After three sets in two hours and 17 minutes, Struff defeated Karatseva with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

After the first set won by Aslan Karatsev, Jan Struff recovered and turned the tide of the match, missing no less than four match points.

They met ten days ago in the qualifying final. The Russian won after 6-4, 6-2, but the German also entered the main draw as a lucky loser.

Jan Lennard Struff, who reached the final for the second time after losing to Nikoloz Basilashvili at ATP Munich 2021, will meet the reigning champion and top favorite Carlos Alcaraz of Spain.

The ATP Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay in the Caja Magica complex. It is in the ATP 1000 category, has a total prize money of 7,705,780 euros, and the titular champion is Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
