AFP journalists saw one drone being shot down by air defenses, while the military administration in Kyiv said “air defenses are working”.

The explosions stopped after about 15-20 minutes. Journalists saw a cloud of black smoke when the military administration in Kyiv announced the lifting of the air alert.

“The enemy’s drone has been shot down,” said Andriy Yermak, the head of the Presidential Administration, and Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported on “explosions and fires in the capital’s Solomyansk district” and warned of the possible fall of drone debris.

“In the Solomyansk district, rescuers contained a fire in a four-story building,” the mayor added, noting that “no one has yet sought medical help.”

The warnings came after Kyiv experienced a new wave of attacks overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

On Thursday morning, the head of the military administration of the city of Kyiv, Serhii Popko, said that “there has not been such an intensity of strikes in our city since the beginning of this year.” Popko also noted that this is the third day of strikes on Kyiv in May.
