Aslan Karatsev qualified for the semifinals of ATP Madrid

2021 Australian Open semi-finalist Karatsev took 1 hour 41 minutes to see off China’s Zhang (99 ATP), 7-6(3), 6-4.

Aslan, who was ranked 14th in the ATP rankings in February 2022, will fight for a place in the grand final with the winner of the match between Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff (65th ATP) and Greek Stephanos Tsitsipas (5th ATP, 4- and seed number).

  • This will be the first semifinal of the Masters tournament in the career of Russian Aslan Karatsev.
  • Thanks to his run in Madrid, Zhizhen Zhang is ranked 67th in the ATP Live rankings (a career-best ranking). Instead, Aslan Karatsev is ranked 51st in real time.
  • In the other semi-final at Caja Magica, Carlos Alcaraz (main favorite) and Borna Corych (17) will meet.
