Shocking are the complaints of a 17-year-old from Heraklion, who remained in a juvenile detention center for about six months.

A 17-year-old boy claims to have been beaten and gang-raped, saying he experienced the worst moments of his life in prison.

“I was raped by five people almost every night for about 15 days until I was released,” the boy tells Cretalive.gr, accompanied by his parents. He also complains that the “5” group, whom he names one at a time, raped another child in the bathroom.

On March 20, three days after he was released from detention, his mother contacted the Heraklion police to report what her son had told her in the car shortly after his release. The boy was called to testify in the presence of a psychologist and was examined by a medical examiner as required by procedure. Now the investigation of the most serious complaints is ongoing.

On the first day, his clothes were stolen and he was forced to play firewood with a cellmate. It was a necessary welcome ritual. The inevitable newbie hat. “If I didn’t, I would have been beaten and kicked by 20 people,” he says.

Frustrated and frightened, he contacted a relative by phone, but the content of the conversation was overheard by other children, so he was again forced to give in.

He asked, as he says, to be transferred to the isolation ward from the second day. He infiltrated the prison and was beaten again. “Four people threw me on the floor and started kicking and punching me. They stepped on me.”

At the same time, there was such a serious episode that he had to be taken to the hospital. His parents were informed of his severe beating at their own insistence, as the child had three days to contact them and they began to worry.

The highlight was the revelations of the constant rape he complains was endured in his cell by a “gang” of five.

The mother of a 17-year-old teenager calls for exemplary punishment of those who abused her son, as well as to bring down “fire” on those who did not protect him properly morally and institutionally. And the minor asks to punish him for what was done to him and to other children.

The family’s lawyer, Giorgos Kokosalis, is closely following the preliminary investigation and expresses confidence that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. “We have received another case of child abuse in the sense of sexual abuse that was committed against this child within the framework of a supervised institution, such as a special detention center for these young people, where the minor was detained for a certain period of time. .

Unfortunately, although many steps have been taken towards alternative treatment for juvenile offenders, the situation remains difficult and even tragic.

As soon as the child was released from prison, he plucked up courage and confessed to his mother that he was going through. They contacted Heraklion Security, which is conducting a preliminary investigation, and we are confident that the perpetrators will be found and prosecuted.”
