A remote-controlled drone attack started a fire at a fuel storage area at an oil refinery in southern Russia, but emergency services managed to bring it under control and put it out in about two hours, the state-run TASS news agency reported. Thursday.
According to the agency, the attack was directed at the Ilsky Oil Refinery near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar Territory.
On Wednesday, near a bridge connecting mainland Russia with the Crimean peninsula, a fuel depot that Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014 in a move not recognized by the international community caught fire.
“Second busy night for emergency services,” Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Veniamin Kondratiev said on Telegram, adding that there were no casualties from the fire. She did not specify the reasons for her action.
Ukraine has rarely publicly claimed responsibility for what Russia says is increasing UAV attacks on infrastructure and military installations, especially in areas near the borders of the two states.
Moscow blamed Kyiv for the April 29 attack that set fire to a fuel depot in Sevastopol.
While in the Bryansk region in western Russia, two trains derailed due to explosions also linked to drone attacks.
The Ukrainian military says it is trying to disrupt supplies to the Russian military in preparation for a much-discussed Ukrainian counteroffensive to retake territory captured by Russian forces.
