Mihaela Bedescu and Amalia Nita won gold medals on Wednesday at the European Youth Boxing Championships in Yerevan.

Mihaela Bedescu won the continental title in cat. 48 kg, after winning by split decision of the judges in the final with the Russian Leah Patlai, writes Agerpres.

Amalia Maria Nice, two-time European junior champion, beat her on points in the cat final. 70 kg over the Hungarian Nicoletta Kovacs, with a score of 5-0.

Diana Maria Tenesescu won a silver medal in cat. 66 kg, after losing on points (0-5) to Frenchwoman Melis Richol in the final.

Also on Wednesday, in the second gala, Arun Niku Tudora will meet him in the cat final. 63.5 kg for the Russian Danylo Belevitin, and Florin Ionitsa, last year’s silver medalist of the European Youth Championship and bronze medalist at the World Youth Championship, will box for gold in cat. 92 kg with Russian Akhmed Rasuyev.

Romania has nine medals at the European Youth Championships, of which gold for Mihaela Bedescu (category 48 kg) and Amalia Nita (category 70 kg), silver for Diana Maria Tănăsescu (cat. 66 kg), bronze for Krinut Andra Nicole Sebe (cat. 63 kg), Maria Giorgica Cimpoeru (cat. 75 kg), David-Angelo Teodosescu (cat. 80 kg) and Dumitrel Badea (cat. 86 kg).

Romania presented 23 boxers for the competition, including 13 men and 10 women, having the second largest delegation after Russia (25 athletes).

275 boxers from 29 countries took part in the competition, 186 men and 89 women.
