A 20-year-old cyclist who ran over and fatally injured a 27-year-old kindergarten teacher was charged by the District Attorney for dangerous driving resulting in death. The unfortunate woman was returning from her wedding bachelorette party, which was scheduled just 24 hours later.
The abduction took place in front of Theageneio Cancer Hospital in Thessaloniki, and the unfortunate woman died from her injuries after several days of hospitalization, despite doctors’ efforts to save her life.
The accused driver reportedly left the scene of the collision for a moment, but later returned, after which he was arrested as part of a traffic stop.
As it became known, he was initially charged with negligent homicide (misdemeanor), but the district attorney upgraded the criminal liability against him to dangerous driving resulting in death (felony). According to the information, the prosecution relied on the testimony of a delivery driver who testified that he had seen the cyclist make dangerous maneuvers on the road.
The 20-year-old allegedly spoke about false and non-existent testimony during an apology to an investigator in Thessaloniki a few days ago. With the consent of the prosecutor, a decision was made to release him on the condition that he report twice a month to the police station at the place of residence.
